Well geez guys, how in the heck is it 2017 already? I swear I was 22 just last week and was looking for direction in my life. Now I’m in the last year of my 20s and have really begun feeling the weight of adulthood. Things have been quiet over here on the blog, but life itself has not been quiet at all.
New years seem to come with an excess of motivation for all types of goals and aspirations. I haven’t done a resolution in a few years. I was never good at sticking to them and they always seemed to be relatively superficial. I make a new business plan each year for what I’d like to with my business and things I’d like to accomplish. Life’s been a little hectic as of late, that I haven’t had took the time to sit and think about my business and where it’s headed.
My main goals in business are to streamline my processes and workflows. I spent most of last year, refining my shooting and editing style, while the admin side of business took a backseat. If I could do it over, I would have mastered these things before I mastered the photography side of the business. If I had established well thought out Standard Operating Procedures for the way I do things I would’ve done less fumbling in my first full season of weddings as a lead photographer.
I plan to keep a small load of about 10-15 weddings, 15 being a stretch. Keeping a small load while all working full time allows me to keep my editing and gallery delivery times within my allotted timeframes.
A new venture I plan on launching this year, is adding Virtual Assistant and Bookkeeping services for other creative entrepreneurs. I’ve been an administrative professional for close to a decade. Once I fully establish my own processes, I’d love to do the same for other creatives. The admin side of being an entrepreneur can be one of the most stressful parts of running a business. As a creative, those everyday tasks that you didn’t exactly foresee when one decides to open up shop can be daunting.
A few other things I plan on doing are finishing up some educational materials that I started last year, introducing more film into my weddings, and booking more anniversary sessions.
I’d love to know what some of your goals are for this year!
